Scotty Kato Earns Athletic Scholarship to Cal State Monterey Bay

Mendocino College pitcher Scotty Kato has earned an athletic scholarship to continue his collegiate baseball career at Cal State Monterey Bay, beginning with the 2026 season.

Kato made an immediate impact for Mendocino College during the 2025 season, delivering one of the program's standout performances early in the year. He recorded a team-high 10 strikeouts, allowed no runs, and surrendered just two hits over six innings against College of the Redwoods, securing the Eagles' first victory of the season. That dominant outing placed him among the statistical pitching leaders across all 3C2A programs during opening weekend.

In addition to his success on the mound, Kato earned recognition on the 2025 CCCBCA Academic All-State Team, reflecting his commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.

Following his season at Mendocino, Kato will join the nationally ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball program, led by head coach Walter White, who is entering his 15th season at the helm. The Otters are coming off their third consecutive CCAA Conference championship in 2025.

Kato's scholarship reflects his development and performance during the 2025 season and continues Mendocino College baseball's tradition of preparing student-athletes to advance successfully to four-year programs.
